Dawn

All night long the candle burned
But in the hazy morn’ I learned
The wick, the way, and the light
Had been consumed by the night.

Tall and stately it had stood
Reflecting all that’s right and good
It’s glow pushed back my fear and dread
As I made my way to bed.

I awake, and dark abounds
And sleepiness has made his rounds
I fumble forth to find some light
For my room’s still filled with night.

But tho my candle did go out
And tho I’m groping all about
all my hope has not yet gone
The darkest hour, precedes the dawn.
